Most beauty and fragrance companies aren't legally required to tell you what's in their "fragrance." One word on the label can hide dozens of chemicals — many of them known endocrine disruptors. We think that's absurd. So we built Morning Sun differently. Here's what that means.
WHAT ARE ENDOCRINE DISRUPTORS?
Endocrine disruptors are chemicals that interfere with your body's hormone system. They can mimic your natural hormones, block them, or alter how they're produced and processed. Long-term exposure has been linked to reproductive health issues, thyroid dysfunction, metabolic changes, and developmental effects — particularly during pregnancy and childhood.
You come into contact with them constantly. They're in plastics, personal care products, cleaning supplies, food packaging, and — perhaps most invisibly — in fragrance.
WHY FRAGRANCE IS A BLIND SPOT
Under U.S. law, companies don't have to disclose what's in "fragrance" or "parfum" on an ingredient label. It's considered a trade secret. That single word can legally contain dozens or hundreds of unlisted chemicals, many of which are known or suspected endocrine disruptors — particularly phthalates, which are used to make scents last longer.
You could be applying a chemical cocktail to your body every day and never know it, because it's all hiding behind one word.
WHAT WE DO DIFFERENTLY
Every ingredient in Morning Sun is fully disclosed on the bottle. Our fragrance is naturally derived and ISO 16128-2 compliant, meaning at least 95% of the fragrance molecules are of natural origin. We formulate without:
- Phthalates — plasticizers linked to hormone disruption and reproductive health issues
- Parabens — endocrine-disrupting preservatives
- Synthetic musks — many are persistent bioaccumulators
- Formaldehyde-releasing preservatives
- PEGs (polyethylene glycols)
- Sulfates (SLS, SLES)
- Mineral oil and petrolatum
- Silicones
- Artificial colors or dyes
- Ethanolamines (DEA, TEA, MEA)
Our carrier oils are cold-pressed where possible, and our fragrance is composed by a natural perfumer using essential oils, absolutes, and naturally derived aroma molecules.

INGREDIENT DICTIONARY
Each ingredient, in plain English.
Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil — The primary carrier oil. Light, non-greasy, absorbs quickly. Rich in linoleic acid, which supports barrier health and hydration.
Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil — Cold-pressed. Adds a light silkiness and helps the fragrance stay close to skin. Traditional in perfumery for its ability to hold scent.
Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride — Derived from coconut and glycerin. A dry oil that absorbs immediately without residue. Also functions as a natural fragrance carrier.
Fragrance (Parfum) — Naturally derived and ISO 16128-2 compliant, meaning at least 95% of the fragrance molecules are of natural origin. Composed by a natural perfumer using essential oils, absolutes, and naturally derived aroma molecules. No phthalates. No synthetic musks.
Polycitronellol (Salted Sun only) — A naturally derived fragrance molecule that gives the scent its soft, salty-skin musk quality.
Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil (Argan Oil) — Cold-pressed. Rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids. Restores softness and adds a subtle luminosity.
Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil — Nourishing and non-comedogenic. High in vitamin E and oleic acid. Softens skin without heaviness.
Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil — Light and fast-absorbing, high in vitamins A and E. Especially good for sensitive or reactive skin.
Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil — Not technically an oil but a liquid wax, the one that most closely mimics the skin's own sebum. Balancing, nourishing, and helps the fragrance wear evenly.
Squalane — Plant-derived, from sugarcane or olives. One of the most bioavailable moisturizing molecules for skin. Locks in hydration without clogging pores.
Tocopherol (Vitamin E) — A natural antioxidant. Extends the shelf life of the formula and protects skin from oxidative stress.
HOW CLEAN IS CLEAN?
Honestly? We think Morning Sun is as clean as a fragrance product gets — and we'll always tell you the truth if that changes. "Clean beauty" doesn't have a single legal definition, so we hold ourselves to the strictest standards we could find: EU cosmetic regulations, Credo Beauty's Dirty List, EWG's Skin Deep database. If an ingredient shows up as a concern on any of those, it doesn't go in our bottle.
We're not going to tell you Morning Sun will change your health. We are going to tell you it's one of the beauty products in your life that you don't have to think twice about.
